Spravato® is FDA-approved for adults with treatment-resistant depression and has been studied extensively in clinical trials. At Bluewater Psychiatry, Spravato® is administered in-office only under medical supervision. Our team monitors you before, during, and after each session to ensure your safety and comfort. Like all treatments, Spravato® can have side effects, which will be discussed with you in detail before starting care.

Will I feel “high” or out of control?

Some patients experience temporary sensations such as lightheadedness, dissociation, or feeling “different” during treatment. These effects are expected and typically wear off within a couple of hours. You remain in a calm, supervised environment throughout your visit, and a provider is always available if you need support. Most patients describe the experience as manageable and feel back to themselves by the end of the observation period.

How long does treatment take?

Each Spravato® appointment typically lasts about two hours, which includes medication administration, a required observation period, and monitoring by our clinical team. Treatment usually begins with twice-weekly sessions for a short period, followed by less frequent maintenance visits if the treatment is effective. Your exact schedule will be personalized based on your response and clinical needs.

Do I need someone to drive me home?

Yes. Because Spravato® can cause temporary drowsiness or altered perception, you will need a ride home after each treatment session. Patients are not permitted to drive themselves or use rideshare services alone. We’ll review these requirements with you ahead of time so you can plan comfortably.

How do I know if I qualify for Spravato®?

You may be a candidate for Spravato® if you have been diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression, you’ve tried two or more antidepressants without sufficient relief, and you are able to receive treatment in a supervised clinical setting.
