Why Refer Patients to Bluewater Psychiatry

Whether your patients are dealing with treatment-resistant mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, or persistent symptoms not fully addressed by standard approaches, Bluewater Psychiatry offers evidence-informed options to complement and extend care plans. Providers choose to refer patients to us because we:

  • Deliver evidence-informed mental health care tailored to complex or refractory conditions

  • Prioritize continuity of care with transparent communication back to referring clinicians

  • Support individualized treatment planning grounded in psychiatric best practices

  • Offer collaborative clinical engagement while respecting existing provider-patient relationships

  • Place patient safety and informed consent at the center of care coordination

We aim to augment—not replace—the therapeutic work already being done by you and your team.

Our team works alongside referring clinicians through a structured evaluation and treatment process designed to support continuity of care.

Advanced Treatment Options

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

TMS is an FDA-cleared, noninvasive therapy for treatment-resistant depression. Using targeted magnetic pulses to modulate neural circuits involved in mood regulation, TMS is well tolerated and does not require anesthesia or systemic medication exposure, allowing patients to immediately return to daily life. It is an evidence-based option for patients seeking an alternative to pharmacologic trials.

Spravato® (Esketamine)

Esketamine is an FDA-approved intranasal treatment for adults with treatment-resistant depression and depressive symptoms with acute suicidal ideation or behavior. Administered in-office under medical supervision as part of a structured treatment protocol, we offer Spravato, a glutamatergic mechanism of action for patients who have not responded to traditional antidepressants.

Ketamine Infusion Therapy

Ketamine therapy is an evidence-supported intervention for treatment-resistant mood disorders. Delivered in a controlled medical setting with continuous monitoring, IV ketamine targets NMDA receptor pathways and may provide rapid symptom relief for appropriately screened patients. Treatment planning is individualized and integrated into the patient’s broader psychiatric care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a candidate for your services?

We welcome referrals for patients with complex, persistent, or treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions who may benefit from advanced or adjunctive interventions. Appropriate referrals may include individuals with:

  • Major depressive disorder that has not responded adequately to multiple medication trials

  • Bipolar depression

  • Trauma-related disorders, including PTSD

  • Persistent anxiety disorders

  • Patients experiencing partial response, intolerable side effects, or functional impairment despite standard treatment

Referrals are also appropriate when additional diagnostic clarification or consultation around advanced treatment options would be helpful. We aim to complement ongoing care and provide targeted, evidence-informed recommendations.

How do you determine which advanced treatment is appropriate?

Each patient undergoes a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that includes:

  • Detailed review of treatment history and prior medication trials

  • Assessment of symptom profile, severity, and functional impact

  • Evaluation of comorbid psychiatric and medical conditions

  • Review of current medications and risk factors

Treatment recommendations are based on current evidence, clinical best practices, and individualized risk–benefit analysis. We prioritize shared decision-making and ensure patients receive clear education about available options before proceeding.

Our goal is to develop a thoughtful, personalized treatment plan aligned with both the patient’s needs and the referring clinician’s broader care strategy.

Will you assume ongoing psychiatric care?

In most cases, we aim to augment—not replace—the care already being provided. Our role is typically consultative or treatment-specific. We provide advanced interventions and coordinate closely with the referring clinician regarding:

  • Treatment recommendations

  • Medication adjustments related to advanced therapies

  • Progress updates and outcomes

When appropriate, patients are transitioned back to the referring provider for continued longitudinal management. If ongoing specialty care is needed, we discuss this collaboratively and transparently.

Maintaining continuity of care and respecting existing provider–patient relationships is central to our approach.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance coverage varies depending on the specific treatment and individual patient plan. Our team assists with:

  • Verification of benefits

  • Prior authorization when required

  • Clear communication regarding expected out-of-pocket costs

We strive to reduce administrative burden for both patients and referring providers by facilitating a transparent and efficient intake process.

For specific coverage questions, our administrative team is available to coordinate directly with patients and provide detailed guidance.

What safety protocols are in place for advanced treatments?

Patient safety and informed consent are foundational to all services we provide. Before initiating advanced treatment, patients undergo:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric and medical screening

  • Review of contraindications and risk factors

  • Education regarding benefits, risks, and alternatives

  • Formal informed consent process

During treatment, we follow established clinical guidelines and monitoring protocols specific to each intervention. Ongoing assessment of symptom response, side effects, and overall functioning informs treatment adjustments.

Our approach is structured, evidence-informed, and grounded in best practices for psychiatric care.
